BEHAVIOUR MODIFICATON THERAPY

Dog Behaviour Modification | N. Surrey BC | The PupHaus

For owners who want to lead the change but need an expert to cut through the noise and show them exactly what to do. While basic obedience teaches commands like sit and stay, professional dog behaviour modification transforms how your dog actually perceives and reacts to the world around them. The work focuses on regulation, recovery, handler timing, leash communication, and the moment before barking, lunging, freezing, pulling, or shutting down happens.

FROM TRAINING TO ATTUNEMENT

Imagine an iceberg.

What you see above the water represents the behaviors that led you to this point. They are genuine and significant. However, they are not the root of the issue; rather, they are merely the symptoms.

BENEATH THE SURFACE

His confidence.

His fears.

His excitement.

His past experiences.

His nervous system.

And the relationship the two of you share.

"Conventional training tends to focus on surface-level behaviors. In contrast, we explore deeper aspects by refining a skill called attunement. This involves recognizing the rhythm of your dog's breath, the position of their ears, changes in body weight, and the subtle signals that often go unnoticed. These cues are essential for understanding how your dog communicates. The key question isn't whether your dog is attempting to communicate, but whether we truly learned to listen.

As for communicating with our dogs, we need to use our bodies, sounds and energy to convey an open path of communication.  It's about delivering those cues with patience, consistency, kindness and empathy to foster a deeper connection."

"When we attune with others we allow our own internal state to shift, to come to resonate with the inner world of another."

Philosophy on Behaviour Modification

It's About Training Humans  & Transforming Dogs

Many training programs concentrate on the question, "How can we stop the behavior?" In contrast, I focus on a deeper inquiry: what circumstances made the behavior necessary? By the time your dog barks, lunges, freezes, pulls, or shuts down, the nervous system has already taken action. This is why repeating commands often fails when you need them most. Regulation Training addresses these issues earlier, examining state, threshold, pressure, movement, leash communication, handler timing, and the dog's ability to recover from stress. The aim is not simply to have a dog that appears calm on command, but one that remains engaged long enough, learn when real life becomes stimulating.

My Specialized Credentials

Unlike the unregulated dog training industry, I don't hide behind confusing acronyms. My expertise is backed by formal, intensive certifications in the three most critical pillars of canine development and life experience:

  • 37 Years studying Dog Behaviour:  I’ve grown up with a pack of dogs and have run a home-based daycare for 25 dogs daily over the past 22 years. This hands-on experience has allowed me to closely observe pack behavior and learn valuable lessons about social interaction, hierarchy, and the differences in male and female behavior, all while fostering calm, confident energy. "Thank you, Cesar Millan, for imparting the pack leadership skills necessary for my work."

  • Certification in Dog Obedience:  I hold certification in Dog Obedience, which focuses on building unwavering focus, reliable manners, and clear communication between you and your dog through operant conditioning, ensuring ethical and kind training is applied. Non aversive tools only. Building rock-solid focus, reliable manners, timing, repetitive, consistent and clear leash communication between you and your dog using operant conditioning and (R+/R-) force free, ethical training methods (Jann Kansepp), and body language).

  • Certification in 'Animal Emotions': Behaviour Modification and Consultation successfully rewrites deep behavioral patterns like fear, reactivity, resource guarding, and over-arousal. By studying a pack of dogs for over 21 years and looking at it through a lens of emotions dogs go through daily, I've been able to rehabilitate many rescues and traumatized dogs. I focused my studies on the CORE emotions, which are Fear, Rage, Grief, Lust, Play, Care and Seek in dogs. "When we understand a dogs emotions, we can support and help that dog in a deeper way".

  • Working towards Certification in Canine Trauma informed Care: A highly specialized framework for rehabilitating rescues, reactive, fearful, and aggressive dogs stuck in trauma. Dogs suffering from severe trauma, anxiety, fear and phonophobia (fear of loud noises) are not able to learn normally, and need to heal before training can begin.

  • Attunement: Attunement practitioners believe that positive shifts in consciousness release a healing energy through a person's body, mind and emotions. Attunement teaches that the endocrine glands are the portals for universal life energy that operates through the physical body, and through the mental and emotional function of the individual, and that they have the opportunity to open more fully to the life energy within them.

P.S.

Certified Applied Animal Behaviorists (CAAB) and Board-Certified Veterinary Behaviorists (DACVB) typically charge between $200 to $600 per hour, or $400 to $900+ for an initial comprehensive consultation. Because these professionals hold doctoral or veterinary degrees, they handle severe issues like extreme aggression and anxiety.

These redline dogs are too far gone for my level of certification, so get in to see me as soon as you notice any issue with your dog, so we can avoid the more serious and unpleasant behaviours that will most likely develop, along with the high cost of fixing it. It's a long and costly affair to correct, and these dogs are the ones that get surrendered and are filling up all our shelters and rescue centers.

I can help you avoid this problem if you bring the dog to see me before it turns 1.5 years old. That's the sweet spot. Earlier is even better, but the signs usually show themselves around 1.5 to 2 years old. In dog behaviour therapy there are no guarantees, as it depends on so many factors, but every dog and owner that is struggling deserves a chance to be help. Let me help you, like I have helped so many others.

"You might think your dog is too far gone, but a free assessment might just surprise you. I take dogs into daycare because I know how much a good calm pack can help. I take them on because I can see that the owner is struggling and willing to learn, to change and try something new. And... by far... the hardest one to train is the Human!"

Meet your Trainer & Care Provider, Mimi

Unlike chaotic, overcrowded and noisy commercial facilities, or small store front locations with very little natural light and rooms with no windows, Mimi offers an exclusive 'members-only' stable daycare pack tailored for your peace of mind.  Your dog will enjoy a cozy cottage with wooden floors, not concrete, sheep skins and pet beds and windows all around letting the sunshine in and conveniently located for North Surrey commuters: Bridgeview.

There is a large, fully secure and turfed, dig proofed backyard with 6-foot privacy fencing and double-gated safety locks and security cameras, a large covered deck with comfy couches and toys galore, managed entirely by a single professional. How? With over two decades of hands-on experience and 37 years of living and studying a pack of dogs. She's a real Pack Leader!

As a solo operator of her doggy daycare since 2005, holding certifications in; Dog Obedience, Behaviour Modification, Pet First Aid, and currently studying for her Canine Trauma-informed Care, she can provide a level of structured care, behavioural insight, and safety that ordinary doggy daycares simply cannot match.  Your dog will come to socialize and will receive expert training without even knowing it's learning.

Mimi has lived with her own pack of up to 5 dogs for a total of 37 years of her life, and operates the daycare entirely solo, so your dog is under 100% active, expert supervision by a certified professional with 21+ years of experience in handling a pack of up to 25 daycare dogs — that are never left alone or monitored by untrained staff armed with a spray bottle.

Mimi is the founder of The PupHaus Dog Daycare & Training, and the instructor at PackLeader Academy. Her mission is to bridge the gap between premium canine care and science-backed behavioral education. She designed her training programs to draw on what she knows best. Puppies and dogs struggling with some form of trauma.

Alongside running her daily daycare program of stable, happy dogs, she also works directly with families through PackLeader Academy to offer specialized education for the early stages of your dog's life and for those rescuing or adopting dogs that struggle to find their way. This is the most important and beneficial thing I and the pack can help these dogs with. Learning how to fit in with the humans and dogs in their life.

Her comprehensive training programs include:

🐾 Puppy Classes: Foundational socialization and manners to get your new companion started on the right paw.

🏡 Private Sessions: Tailored, one-on-one coaching in your home or at her facility to target your specific training goals and needs.

🚦 Teen Programs: Specialized programs to help anxious or reactive young dogs and their humans learn to navigate the world.

Day Training: Combining Daycare with training to help puppies and teens thrive in a social setting while learning to dog.

Boot Camp: Board & Train is designed to have your dog living in our home and learning boundaries, limitations and rules.

By combining the hands-on expertise from her ethical training programs with their meticulously structured daycare routine, she will ensure that every dog in her care receives the highest standard of safety, kindness, respect, love, mental stimulation, and behavioral support. And any rehabilitation of a dog that she worked with would not not have been achieved so quickly without the support from her pack. She says she couldn't do it without them.
