PACK LEADER SCHOOL of OBEDIENCE
Puppy or Basic Obedience. When should I start training my dog?
Many believe that you should wait to train your puppy till he or she is at least six months old. We believe it’s starts the day you bring your li’l bundle of joy home.
The old style training with choke collars and rough handling is not too popular in training today and what I have learned working with large groups of dogs is, you really don’t need to say anything. Body language and energy can do it all, and without any pain or yelling. We all know the last thing you want to do is cause your dog any pain or tune you out. By using our technique, you will have your dog watching and following you in no time at all.
Puppies are just like a sponge…and absorb everything they smell, hear or see. It’s a monkey see…monkey do thing. They love to be with you, as they are social creatures, and it is important that a bond is set early on, before he gets his own ideas. Finding an Obedience class where the trainer doesn’t use extreme force, or one that isn’t going to cause fear or anxiety in your dog is very important. One that believes in calm assertive energy is going to be able to communicate with the dog so much better and in a positive way.
I wanted to learn how to show a dog and also be a trainer. I was trained as a Novice by a professional master trainer who was still using some of the harsh and tough old styles of training. I have many, many years experience with dogs and have had a very successful dog daycare for the last 8 years, so I took only what I needed from what he taught us and found my own style of training, where calm and assertive treatment achieved the same results without breaking the dogs spirit or the love of learning new things.
Dog shows offer the thrill of extreme competition, with a love for the various breeds of dogs being exhibited. There dogs are exhibited by novice owners who enjoy the sport of dog showing. If you are interested in learning how to show your pure bred dog, please give me a call to set up an appointment.
Dog training is very personal and based on environment, lifestyle and choice. An interview to discuss training style is recommended.
We offer a combo daycare and puppy one-on-one class for 4 month old puppies and up, as well as basic obedience classes to master “Sit”, “Stay”, “Down”, “Come” and “Heel” etc. We also offer One-on-One training in your home or out in your environment, to give you the tools to better handle certain issues that arise in your daily routine.
